These laws support the relationship between a client and a psychotherapist and ensure that Personal Information that is disclosed in session will not be shared without written permission.

The following are exceptions to these laws:

I must notify the police and inform the intended victim when a client is threatening serious bodily harm to another person(s).

I am required by law to report suspected child abuse, dependant adult, or elder abuse to the appropriate authorities immediately.

I am required to take actions provided to me by law in order to ensure a clients safety. If a client intends to harm himself, I will make every effort to enlist their cooperation, however, if they choose not to cooperate, I will be forced to take further measures without their permission in an effort to protect them, as the law mandates.
