Life on the Mental Level

We have between 12,000 - 50,000 thoughts per day and the energy behind our thoughts has a profound effect on our bio-psycho-social reality. Conscious thoughts and deep rooted beliefs help create realities in the physical world. At Life Dr. we focus on what is and what's positive! Quantum physics - attempting to explain the unexplainable; the collective unconscious, neuro-science, neuro-chemistry and our neurological system. Let's celebrate our miraculous brain.

Physical Life & the Body

An exploration of home: our amazing body and it's systems. How it works and what it needs. Inner & outer. Our physical environments. What we do in the world ...our actions vs. our intentions and aligning the two. A balance of what we want vs. what we need. Everything tangible. How 'dis-ease' impacts our body causing illness and discomfort. Spotlight on self-care and physically manifesting what we want inside and out!

Life on the Spiritual Level

When we explore the deeper connection between our internal and external environments, we become more conscious of our own power, our personal responsibility and how our lives are improved by acting with intention. Karma, conscious living, and the bond to spirit, the collective unconscious and a higher power. It's an energy and it's POSITIVE!

Life on the Emotional Level

There is a lot of confusion about the difference between our feelings (happy, sad, fearful, angry), and our emotions. Feelings are more universally felt in nature and circumstance, while our emotions are an expression of the personality and what we put out in the world. Emotions are the tension between our inside world and the outside world. They're our 'reactions' towards someone or something, and usually involve our ego.

Exploring our Emotional Life means tuning in to how we are feeling: inside ourselves, within our different environments, as well as with the people we choose to have in our lives. Our commitment to activities and behaviors that provide: a sense of accomplishment, creative outlet, or some sense of purpose or support, enhances our well-being and the well-being of others.

Relationships

The dynamics of a healthy relationship begin with you! When we feel comfortable with who we are, know our value and that we're worthy of love, we love and value others. Let's explore personal, family and professional relationships. What it means to 'trust'. Heart-centered, authentic communication.  Needs, boundaries and the importance of listening.  Sex vs. sensuality. Inner & outer relationships with ourselves, the global community, and to things, like money.

Natural Gourmet & Nutrition

Everything food! Recipes-for-life, meal planning and preparation, urban gardening, farm-to-table, life-enhancing seasonal foods. The science of healthy whole foods and their nutritional benefits, using food-as-medicine and a bit of history, the use of supplements, greens, natural, organic, wild, grass-fed, raw and more!

Healthy Living

A healthy life is a life in balance and so much more than exercising, eating & sleeping well. Let's explore the connection between our internal and external environments and consciously create a life of passion & purpose. We can learn to be our best-selves and live our best-lives at home, with friends & family, at work and on a global level. It's possible to feel nourished by environments that feel good to us, and to experience health, wellness and abundance in every area of your life. Let's explore healthy living from the inside-out!

Life-Tips and Quotes

My personal Life-Tips and Quotes all in one place!  What are some of your favorites?  Here is one of mine by someone who has inspired me:

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine as children do. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own lights shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."

A Kings Speech

  Photo: Life Dr. ®

Can going to a funeral teach a lesson about living? This is a guest post by Michael Levine who said, "If I were a king, attending a funeral would be mandatory for everyone under 40."

I get the strangest looks from people when I tell them that I have already carefully considered and have decided what my first act would be as king of this great country.  The looks get even stranger, if possible, when I reveal my declaration to the mandating of annual attendance at a funeral service for every man, woman and child under age 40.

Perhaps this idea came to me after attending the funeral of an employee’s father who passed away suddenly at age 57.  I had never met the gentleman and went to the service out of a sense of obligation, wanting to show respect.  That’s all.  What I learned that day was a great deal more.

Meet My Newest Family Members

  Photo: Life Dr. ®

Daisy, Ginger and Nellie are only a couple weeks old here in this photo. I adopted them just after they had hatched and have hand fed these baby chicks and spent a lot of time with them on a daily basis.  Today, they are very comfortable around people as well as with my tea-cup yorkie, Winnie.

I am excited to share that in 2 - 3  months from now they will be egg-laying hens and will each lay an egg per day. The two pictured on the right and rear are Ameraucanas. They are sometimes called the Easter-Egg Chicken because they lay beautiful blue-green colored eggs.  ...perhaps these beautiful hawk-like looking creatures inspired Dr. Seuss for his famous book, Green Eggs and Ham. My Rhode Island Red, Ginger (in the front) will lay brown colored eggs.  All of these breeds originated in America and my Buff-Orpington (not pictured) hails from England and will lay brown eggs as well.

People are intrigued by my decision to raise my own chickens where I live in Los Angeles. I am finding the whole process very empowering as we have to know where are food is coming from in todays world.

Coming Soon: A New Documentary Film “Average Joe on the Raw"

This is a guest post by Perry Chen - an 11-year-old award winning Film & Food Critic. I recently had the pleasure of connecting with he and his mom Zhu Shen - about life in our urban gardens and the Documentary film she's producing, "Average Joe on the Raw".  It's a personal story about a man named Seth Hayhurst and his journey towards healing and a healthier life-style.  Zhu Shen and Perry will both be featured in the film and I am really looking forward to seeing it.

To learn how to plant your own urban garden click here.

Happy Gardening & Healthy Eating,

If you watched director Morgan Spurlock’s Oscar-nominated documentary “Super Size Me,” and the more recent “Forks Over Knives,” you will LOVE the new feature documentary “Average Joe on the Raw,” about a young man Seth Hayhurst’s (“Average Joe”) incredible 60-day journey on nothing but raw food in the hopes of reversing the damages of 30 years of an “average” American diet.

What did he do and what happened to him? What can you do to improve your own health with what you eat?

Food: As Medicine

  Photo: Life Dr. ®

While it's clear that berries are filled with antioxidants that deliver health benefits throughout your body. Did you know that cherries really top the list? Cherries are native to Europe. They have been shown to contain high levels of the nutrient melatonin which helps regulate sleep and offers anti-aging benefits. They are a good source of dietary fiber and rich in vitamin A, vitamin C, iron and calcium. Anthocyanins found in cherries give them their rich color and are known to help improve a persons memory, aid in losing weight and provide nutrients that help prevent cancer.  These unique antioxidants protect individual cells as well as the bodies immune, cardiovascular and digestive systems from the damaging affects of free radicals, oxygen, nitrogen, and UV radiation. Cherries have such high levels of anti-inflammatory properties that the FDA wanted scientific information regarding cherries to be re-phrased and threatened the farming industry by suggesting they could be deemed a drug.
